The infrastructure had a degree of reliability but was built simple and not designed to scale. Multiple services ran on a single server with no redundancy: a failure would have stopped the services, and every update forced a full outage. The backup, though duplicated, had no off-site copies and unpredictable recovery times, while a growing number of users from different bodies needed secure remote access and a high level of data protection.

We built a high-availability on-premise Private Cloud on VMware infrastructure: two nodes plus dual-controller shared storage based on ZFS software, managed with cloud logic. The Backup as a Service platform saves snapshot-based copies both locally and in the Cloud at the SUNDATA Data Center, finally providing off-site copies. The project also included the firewall upgrade to Sophos XG with a reconfigured and segmented network, and the migration of email to the SUNDATA mailserver (50 GB IMAP mailboxes, Microsoft Active Directory integration, configurable-retention backup and managed antispam). All on a fixed quarterly fee, with Smart Care specialist systems support.

Markedly improved performance, greater service continuity, and maintenance and software updates carried out without disruption. The firewall enabled secure interconnections with the connected bodies, and a more robust email setup guards against loss of data or time. A single internal IT resource manages multiple digital functions, relying on ITCARMAT for advanced activities, all at a fee that is advantageous compared to traditional cloud and on-premise solutions.
